Visiting Los Angeles for pleasure in April 08. Do not drive. What is cheap lodging near to metro or bus stop?

Not much interested in the beach although might spend an afternoon there people watching. Am a senior 65 and on my own. I ran nightclubs for a living and was a dj and actor so I am open minded. Like to check out the clubs but not vital. Am more interested in museums, people watching, tourist things. Any suggestions for where to stay and what to see would be helpful.

1. We stayed just off of Hollywood Blvd and Highland. It is a few blocks from Grauman's Chinese theatre and the walk of fame, and we took buses up and down Hollywood Blvd and Sunset Blvd to places such as Santa Monica and Beverly Hills. From Grauman's you can get tickets to the locally filmed shows and arrange sightseeing tours. The following link should give you the area with the hotel finder turned on...
