Parents parking illegally when at bus stops - why do they do that?
I completely understand that parents want to watch their kids at the bus stop/wait for them at the bus stop - but this should be done in a LEGAL manner. Time and time again I see parents parking right in front of a stop sign or in front of a fire hydrant or who park in the middle of the road and traffic can't get by. This is not only illegal, but it's highly dangerous. For example, you car is blocking the stop sign, someone might not see it, and run through it and hit a car/bus/kids. Don't these parents remember the rules from their Driver's Ed class?? Actually in my state the following is considered ILLLEGAL parking and can be found in the State of NH's DMV Driver's Education manual online: Illegal Parking: - within 30 feet of a stop sign - in such a way that blcoks traffic or is a hazard to others on the road - no double parking - on any street where there is not clearance for other vehicles to pass between the parked vehicles and the far curb - within 15 feet of a fire hydrant

- Ok I admit it, I will do this. As with all parents in my neighborhood, the first person will pull close to the stop sign- others will even block the road if it's within a minute or two of the bus arriving. I live in a small community and we aren't blocking anything major, but the only other choice would be to park really far away and most of us have babies in the car and it's cold out so the easiest thing is to park close. It's only for a few minutes.
- not illegal to park infront of a stop sign why do you think they are on poles. as far as the hydrant goes as long as they are in the car they are fine. you just don't leave you're car parked in front of one unmanned. no cop would bother them if they are looking out for kids and are limited where they can park.
- Well, the safety of their kids is probably whats on their minds - not breaking traffic laws. And if they're in the car, idling, they can still move it when required.
