  1. yes, here is what you do...i just did this...you need to take a cheap bus such as Los Americanos, Tornado, or something like that, from Houston to the border. (Laredo? Brownsville?) then, b/c it will save you so much time, walk yourself across the border, catch a 50 peso cab ride to the bus station on the Mexican side, and take ETN. ONLY go with ETN!! they are amazing. i slept like a baby. you can lay almost all the way down, there are only 25 or so seats on the bus, SOOOO much leg room, snacks, etc... And the movies come with headphones so you don't have to listen if you don't want. the bathrooms are clean, and there are two on each bus. i LOVE ETN. the ticket from Guadalajara to Nuevo Lareddo ran me 930 pesos...only 250 more than a crappy bus. and the ride to michoacan is LONG, so you definitely want a nice bus. and michoacan is not the safest place right now because of the drug stuff, so it's important you use a bus company like ETN than is only going to take the toll rodes, and they won't stop along the way.
  2. ETN is the most comfortable bus line in Mexico, by far. However, it does not leave from every border town. Now there are other lines that offer 'ejecutivo' service which is similar to ETN. They all have nice buses with comfortable, reclining seats with two seats on one side and one on the other. Just check at your border crossing and take the 'ejecutivo' service, if available. You can also go from McAllen, Texas or Reynosa, Mexico to Mexico City and then take a bus to Michoacan. It is approximately 12 hours to Mexico City and five to Morelia, Michoacan depending on the departure point.
