Book XEL-Ha when we get to Mexico, or from home on-line before we go?
We are planning to go to Xel-Ha eco park while in Mexicio, but not sure if there's any advantage to waiting until we get there to actually book it, or do it ahead of time. Same goes for golf - the guys (4 of them) want to play a round while in the Mexican Riviera. Any suggestions on the best courses to play at? We're staying close to Playa Del Carmen. As well, how reliable/safe are the "collectivo" busses in Mexico? How much should it cost on one of those to go from Puerto Morales to Xel-Ha? How much for a cab for the same trip? Many thanks to anyone who can help with any of my questions.

- Don't worry, just book the trips in your hotel lobby at the front desk when you get there...there is always room, and the prices are reasonable, and transportation is always included. Same with golfing, just book when you get there...unless you are going in the high season, then maybe book before leaving. Busses are fine...I mean not the greatest, but you are in Mexico of course...we took taxis everywhere...the taxi is usually about double the cost of the bus, but we didn't mind, cause the taxi is faster, cause the bus makes stops. Make sure you take the ferry out to Cozumel island when you're there...there is really good snorkelling at Chankanaab there.
- We were in Cancun last month. We didn't go to Xel-Ha, but we did go to Xcaret. I waited to book the trip in Cancun and paid about $12 each more than was offered online. I can't tell you anything about golf, I don't play, but the courses I saw looked very nice. The buses in Cancun were very crowded with the local population. Taxis around town weren't all that spendy, but going to the airport or the big tourist attractions was expensive. Book your trip to Xel-Ha with transportation included. I would also suggest you book transportation to and from the airport before you go. And, when leaving the airport after collecting your baggage, don't let anyone guide you to the people at the counters to the left. They say they represent the Mexican Tourism Bureau or some such rot, but they are really trying to book you into a timeshare tour.
- Buy your tickets to Xel-Ha at the entrance. We take the all-inclusive package for 57.00 USD (last year). AI we find is better because everything you want to do in the park costs money so if you go AI is works out to be far cheaper, plus all your food and drink is included. We always take the collectivo anywhere we go in the area. Travelling by bus or collectivo is a fraction of the cost of a taxi. Example - playa de carmen to Xel-Ha is 20 peso each way.
- I'd do some research first, as many times the prices are lower online. About the "colectivos" they are okay, everyone uses them. I am not sure about the cost, but a few years ago it was about 2 dollars. Cabs are much more expensive, anywhere between 10 and 20 dollars for a short trip.
