Souther Cal Transit from El Monte Rail Station Area to San Diego/Mexico Border?

Hi there, I'm going to meet a friend is the Baja CA area this weekend and I need help planning travel from the El Monte area (there is a Metro station and major Bus station in El Monte) down to the San Diego/Mexico (Tijuana) border. I want to travel by rail most of the way and hopefully transfer to local area (SD) trolley/bus-lines. Can anyone help me plan this trip fairly quickly or point me in the right direction? Thanks for your help.

  1. Best bet is to call the local transit system office and they can route you to where you want to go
  2. You can catch the Metro into downtown LA. Get off at the Amtrak station. Catch the San Digan, which I believe has 10 trains a day to San Diego. It is operated by Amtrak. In San Diego the San Diego trolley stops right at the Amtrak station. Take Trolley to border and walk across into Mexico. This would be faster than the Greyhound, and cost well depend on day of week and time of day. At border you can get a bus right into downtown Tijuana.
  3. this should help: http://www.sdcommute.com/Rider_Information/trolley/trolleymap.asp if you are able, you can actually walk short distance across border, especially much quicker return
  4. Since you are trying to leave from the El Monte area, I think that the Greyhound would be your best bet because there is a big Bus Station in El Monte. The Greyhound goes all the way down to the border; then from there, TJ has local buses that travel throughout the Baja Cal. peninsula. I know were looking for Rail travel but if do consider the bus as well as it's probably most convenient from where you're trying to leave from.
