USA Bus Lines

Does anyone know any cheap bus services to New York from either DC or Maryland??

  1. You're better off taking the metro-liner. Buses can be a pain with all the extra stops and screaming kids. You can relax on the metro-liner and be ready for the big apple. 2. I'm not sure how to find the information, but you might look into Chinatown buses. Many of the east coast (and for that matter west coast) Chinatowns have buses connecting one another. It may mean a NYC to Philly to DC trip, but a decade ago when I rode them they were very affordable (uncomfortable, but cheap). Otherwise look into Greyhound or Amtrak. Amtrak can be pricey, but the commuter trains (which may mean standing most of the way) can be affordable.
  3. As mentioned above there are many inexpensive "Chinatown" buses (so nicknamed because several travel between Chinatowns in DC to NYC) but some have stops around the District as well as surrounding Maryland and Virginia suburbs. ADDENDUM: Bolt Bus is run by Greyhound and offers a similar "order early discount" that MegaBus does.

  5. Greyhound is around $46 round trip between DC and New York's Port Authority. It goes straight from DC to NYC, although the driver may stop at one of the rest stops for a restroom/stretch-your-legs break. Some do, some don't. There's also something I've seen called Bolt Bus, but I have not tried it. They pick up outside the Metro Center station, but I don't know where in NYC they do.
  6. Remember you get what you pay for Chinatown bus: Pay when you get there NOT ON THE INTERNET!! its 30-35 round trip. depending on what the little lady charges you when you get there. Its cheaper and you get there quicker if not the same time as greyhound. cons: you wait until they are ready to leave (which is when the bus is reasonably full) not the specified leave time. Greyhound: More pricey, but its a legitamite corp. so you leave at the right time/ more comfy. if you have complaints you can complain to someone vs chinatown there really is no one to complain to. cons: times are not as nice as chinatown bus. last bus is pretty early. Train: Never used it too much money for my blood! Me I stick with the chinatown, what can i say im cheap.
  7. Chinatown bus fo sure!
