Is it possible for me to use a travel card I buy from the london underground on national rail?

Im going to thrope park, and I'm trying to find a cheaper way to get there by train. If i buy a travel card from the london underground, will it be compatible to use on the national rail service, that goes to stains? Because on the website it currently says: You can use your Travelcard on: Tube, Docklands Light Railway and National Rail services Bus services within the entire Greater London area (regardless of the zone the Travelcard actually covers) Trams where your Travelcard includes Zone 3, 4, 5 or 6 National Rail (excluding Heathrow Connect between Hayes & Harlington and Heathrow, and on Heathrow Express) Scheduled Riverboat services at 1/3 off the normal fare - just show your Travelcard or Oyster card with a Travelcard on it at the time of travel show more information ... Would this include the route that I am taking, as I am taking a train from waterloo london to stains (not waterloo east)?

  1. no
  2. No, you can't for the simple reason that Staines falls outside the London zoning system, as covered by the travelcards. See a copy of the Zoning Map at http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/tube-dlr-trams-and-train-travelcard-zones-map.pdf. The fact that you are travelling from Waterloo Mainline, rather than Waterloo East, is irrelevant. Travel Cards are usable for journeys from mainline stations to destinations within the travel card zones
