How is it that Muslim charter schools are held to a different standard than any other type?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080520/ap_on_re_us/charter_school_religion_1 "The state said Tarik ibn Zayad Academy should change its busing schedule and its handling of Friday prayer services. The shorter prayer services on other days were found to be acceptable, but not the 30-minute service on school grounds on Muslim's holy day." So, if a public school keeps a Christian prayer short, it should be just fine and pass constitutional muster wth no problem, right? Somehow I doubt that same rules would apply. Why does our society insist on carving out exception after exception for Islam and Muslims that would NEVER be acceptable for any other religious group? EDIT: For those who will clam that charter schools are not public, I offer the following definition from Wikipedia: "Charter schools are publicly funded elementary or secondary schools in the United States that have been freed from some of the rules, regulations, and statutes that apply to other public schools in exchange for some type of accountability for producing certain results, which are set forth in each school's charter." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charter_school g: They are public schools with slightly different rules, but SCOTUS' decision regarding prayer in public schools applies...except apparently in those run by the religion of peace. mallori: I read Debbie Schlussel regularly...she's a welcome voice of reason in a PC world.
Public Comments
- because for some reason we are supposed to feel guilty for their plight.
- Because muslims are easily made uncomfortable, and when they are they have a tendency to make others even more uncomfortable. I've heard liberals say they respect muslims because they stand up for their beliefs. You have to read behind the lines on those statements.
- charter schools are weird... and aren't held by the same rules as regular public schools... the whole charter school thing is weird and crazy if you ask me... I think you may be able to do it in a Christian charter school... but I'm not sure... EDIT: it also says this seems to be a preliminary finding... and I would expect more is to come... and it says it's on school grounds... but not school led... many FCA (Fellowship of Christian athletes) meet and pray on school property legally... it's just not school led..
- its happening all over, just type "muslim public school" in your internet browser.
- Because if you ask questions or disagree with how they do things you are a racist, & people are so affraid of being labeled a racist they bow to what ever they want. Just take a look at the public school system in England, they had to come up with a whole set of "new rules" to accomadate muslims because they are muslim & you don't want to offend a muslim. They even removed the book Three little pigs from their school library because it was offencive to muslims. & the teaching of the Holocost is not allowed if a muslim child is in the class they must be excused first.
