http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080520/ap_on_re_us/charter_school_religion_1 "The state said Tarik ibn Zayad Academy should change its busing schedule and its handling of Friday prayer services. The shorter prayer services on other days were found to be acceptable, but not the 30-minute service on school grounds on Muslim's holy day." So, if a public school keeps a Christian prayer short, it should be just fine and pass constitutional muster wth no problem, right? Somehow I doubt that same rules would apply. Why does our society insist on carving out exception after exception for Islam and Muslims that would NEVER be acceptable for any other religious group? BTW, for those who will clam that charter schools are not public, I offer the following definition from Wikipedia: "Charter schools are publicly funded elementary or secondary schools in the United States that have been freed from some of the rules, regulations, and statutes that apply to other public schools in exchange for some type of accountability for producing certain results, which are set forth in each school's charter." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charter_school wiggins: So if Christians became terrorists, they could have prayer in public schools too? I don't think we want it quite THAT bad. blue: That's exactly what I'm telling you. Many Christian denominations run charter schools as well, but the difference is they're actually held to the same laws which govern other public schools...apparently unlike Muslims. holy: You think we support this?? guess: Faculty?!? Why should the faculty be changed? Is it your contention that if someone once teaches on a Catholic school, he/she should never be allowed to teach in a public school? You never did answer my challenge to produce one of the "hundreds" of instances where a Catholic-run charter school has been reprimanded for violating the separation clause. Of course, that might be because they exist solely in your head. mukto: Christians haven't invaded anythng. They posess nether a foreign policy nor an armed force. Sovereign nations such as the Unoted States do. Are you denyng there are Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, atheist...and even Muslim members of the US Armed Forces? puller: Do you agree with every last thing your party's leadership has ever said? Neither do I. Get over yourself.
