Whereabouts in New York does the Greyhound Bus Service terminate?

I am planning to go from Toronto but the online schedule only specifies that it goes to 'New York'. I then need to get from wherever that is to Jones Beach Theatre in Wantagh, so need to know where exactly I will be in order to plan the next step of my journey. Additionally, if anbody familiar with this knows how much a taxi from the bus station to JBT would cost, could you please let me know? Thanks in advance and I realise this is a pretty full question!

  1. Port Authority. There is also a bus station in Washington Heights but it would be easier to get off at Port Authority. Port Authority is on 8th Avenue around 42nd street. I don't know how much the taxi would cost but I'm sure it's more than 50 bucks. Why don't you just walk over to Penn Station and take the LIRR? It would probably be much cheaper. I can't give you exact directions, though.
  2. Buses wind up at The Port Authority complex on the West Side in Manhattan, a block from where the Lincoln Tunnel comes out from under the Hudson River. I would take a subway to Jones Beach, THEN get a cab. There is an information desk at the P.A. where you can find out about which subway to catch. BEWARE of scammers in the P.A., the people who 'just need a dollar/5 dollars, etc.' and keep your hand on your luggage at ALL times. good luck!
  3. The bus will drop you off at the Port Authority Bus Terminal at 42nd Street and 8th Avenue in Manhattan. To take a taxi from there to Jones Beach would cost you close to $100, so unless you're willing to fork over that kind of cash, you're probably going to have to take the train. From the Port Authority Bus Terminal, get on the A, C, E subway train and take it one stop to 34th Street - Penn Station. The fare for the subway is $2.00. Alternatively, you can walk down 8th Avenue from where the bus terminal is to 34th Street. (It's about 8 blocks, really not that far at all.) Go into Penn Station and follow the signs to the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR). You will need to take the LIRR to Freeport on the Babylon Branch. You can buy the tickets from the counter or use the automated machines. I believe it is $15 round-trip. Trains leave about every 30 minutes. Take the train to Freeport, and from there, you will need to catch the N88 Long Island Bus to get to Jones Beach. Hope that helps.
  4. My friend, Greyhound buses terminate at the Port Authority Bus Teminal in Manhattan. From there you can take the subway to Penn Station for connection to the Long Island Rail. Forget taking a taxi from the PA Bus Terminal to Jones Beach, it will cost you an arm and a leg. Meaning it expensive. Here's how to get from the PA Bus Terminal to Jones Beach on the cheap. Step 1: from the PA Bus Terminal, take the "A", "C" or "E" subway lines (Blue Line) south to Penn Station. The fare is $2 one way. Step 2: at Penn Station, transfer to the Long Island Railroad. Take the Babylon Branch from Penn Station to Wantagh. The fare is $7 off peak and $9.25 during peak travel period. Make sure you purchase your ticket at the station before boarding, because the fare is higher on board. Step 3: when you get off the train at Wantagh, transfer to LI Bus route JB50, which is a seasonal bus service running from the train station to the beach. The bus will leave near the Jones Beach Theater and the fare is $2. Now, since part of your trip will involve the subway and the Long Island Bus, purchase a 1-day unlimited ride fun pass MetroCard from the vending machine at the PA Bus Terminal. The card cost $7.50 and it will give you unlimited rides on the subway and LI Bus only. I hope this information is very helpful. Good luck and enjoy the show. Native New Yorker
  5. The bus goes to the basement of Port Authority bus terminal bounded by 40th St., 42nd St., 8th Ave., and 9th Ave. (It does not stop at the Washington Heights stop, which, by the way, is also a Port Authority bus terminal.) Jones Beach is not in New York City. There is a Long Island Railroad train from near the bus terminal to near Jones Beach. Call the Long Island Railroad to ask where to board the train. From the bus terminal, either exit on the 8th Avenue side and then (a) to get to Penn Station, walk approximately 8 blocks south; the station is on your left shortly after you cross 33rd St., or (b) to get to Grand Central, walk north to 42nd St., turn right, walk east to Vanderbelt Avenue. The main entrance is at Park and 42nd, but the entrance at 42nd and Vanderbelt is closer.
