USA Bus Lines

How do you feel about NYC Select Bus Service (aka Bus Rapid Transit) Project?

According to MTA and NYCDOT, Select Bus Service will replace Bx12 Limited very soon in summer. Will really work because right now, cars and trucks are still parking on Fordham Rd. If it began ontime on June 29th, will car drives will obey and stay out of bus lanes unless it was shared with turning lane even with police enformcent?

  1. I've seen this in Boston with the "Silver Line" on the "T", which is BRT. It works there because they actually have the bus go down into tunnels and there are "stations" where people wait for the bus. The way New York City traffic is, especially along Fordham Road between Jerome Avenue and Third Avenue, it is going to be a nightmare. Cars and delivery trucks will end up "standing" on that dedicated lane, as much as cops will write up tickets for it. The amount of "people traffic" is crazy for Fordham Road as well. It could ONLY work if they did like the Silver Line on the "T" by running the bus underground from before Jerome Avenue up to Third Avenue (though it would be tough to construct something on Grand Concourse since you already have an underpass and the subway below). At best this bus will be a "glorified" limited. But I really don't see it saving a lot of time....some but not a lot.
  2. My friend, I agree with Tony S on this route. It provably will not work on Fordham Road unless a tunnel is build under Fordham Road, between Jerome Avenue and Third Avenue. If this route is implemented, drivers will have to be inform that they can no longer park on the bus lane, but then again, New York City drivers, especially delivery drivers, have a bad habit of parking (or standing) in front of a bus stop, or on a bus lane. The other question still remains, who are fares going to be collected? Are they going to be collected on board or on the sidewalk? And do we, the riding public, have to use a MetroCard instead of coins to pay our fares? Instead of putting BRT on the Bx12 line, transit should place the service on more heavily used north/south corridors, such as the Bx1, 2, 41 and 55, where bus are, at time packed like sardines, especially during rush hours. The other alternative, will be building an extenstion of the :"A" line across the Bronx, or bulid a crosstown LRT to connect all the subway lines in the Bronx, with "A" at 207th Street. Good luck
