How many People like school bus Service?

I am a bus driver. I also want to make my kids (and parents) feel safe on the bus. I do not allow bullying. I want to know how people feel about school bus service. I am open to all comments. I am also interested in bettering the experience for both child and parent. Please comment and answer so I know at least one bus driver is doing all she can. Thank you guys so far. Makes me feel like there is a reason I wake up in the morning and put on my bright yellow/green vest and head out to work.

  1. As one who lived next to the bus garage, I must say it was useful in knowing whether we had a snow day or not.
  2. that is so kewl that you wanna do all you can... as long as you are not late to a bus stop , trus me i hate it wen that happens in the winter.... i like the no bullying.... i think your doin a good job... as long as they dont climb on things and move around too much i think its good
  3. good for you... I would think that would be an extremely tough job in this day and age... I applaud you for setting rules on your bus... too many drivers out there look the other way... Our school did implement cameras, although they never have really had a problem w/ students.
  4. Sounds like your already proactive. Demanding a well behaved bus is good. I feel its great the schools even agree to take the kids in the first place.
  5. to be honest i hate school busses. i havent had to ride the bus since 7th grade but the bus keeps kids from getting their liscence sometimes. like the parents think they dont need to drive when they can ride the bus to school. i know a lot of kids do get the privilage to drive to school but some dont because of that reason.
  6. I love my son's bus driver!! She is fabulous. Very careful and safe. I am sure you are too. Thanks for doing a great job!!!
  7. Must school bus services are very good. I had a bus driver once that would back cookies for the kids every friday, it was really nice.
  8. Okay, you seem like a very conscientious bus driver....but... I would never in a million years allow my children to ride a school bus....unless.....I knew there was another adult not just riding, but circulating the bus to watch for fighting, bullying, foul language, and improper physical interaction. Growing up, I learned more things (I should not have known) on a school bus than anywhere else. I watched bullying take place, sex acts be performed, heard disgusting stories, words, and jokes and was dared to do things I shouldn't have. I also am an educator and all through college worked in a summer camp. Fortunately, as I sometimes rode and sometimes drove, we had 2-3 other adults on the bus at all times. However, even with these reinforcements, there was often much mischief going on! Not a chance!
  9. The school bus driver is an important part of your child's total school experience.. If the first thing in the morning for your child's school day is to ride on a bus where chaos rules, your child might make up excuses or play sick, just to be out of the bus as much as possible. Also the bus driver is the only person between your child and all the reckless drivers on the road to work in the mornings. Defensive driving is not easy for something as large as a bus and bus drivers can't be effective if there is chaos on the bus amongst the children.. therefore, I for one, think there should be two persons on a bus when it is carrying children to and from school.. Cameras are great but they only give evidence, not assistance. We used to have an older child ride the bus with the younger grades. They were called the bus "Safety". We also had an older child or children in the school halls, monitoring the children. Neither of these positions was funded. I think we should have these positions filled by a high school student and paid a wage as a training program. The bus driver should have a say in who is his/her bus "Safety". If a paid position is not a possibility, perhaps parent volunteers could fill part of the trips.. or maybe all of them if your parents are willing. Good luck on your bus service. :)
  10. Coming from a student P.O.V I loved the school bus service! It is easier on the parents that have to get up and go to work, kids get to interact with other kids on the bus, we are rarely late because the schedule is set, kids get home at the same time every day, the bus drivers are certified and are very personable with the kids, and the overall experience is a good one for kids. The service is especially great for people that live in rural areas because not everyone has a car. Keep doing a great job! Bus drivers are great people and I can't wait to send my future kids to school on the bus! I would recommend all buses having seatbelts for all kids because we cannot predict accidents. There have been many school bus accidents where lives could have been saved of kids if they had been wearing seatbelts. God Bless You and keep on bussing!
