Any ways to fatten an Italian Greyhound?

My dog is a very picky eater. Is there special diet I can put him on to allow him to gain weight? Vinnie is 3 years old, 7.2 lbs and about 15 inch high. I don't want him to be fat, just maybe another pound or 2.

  1. Italian greyhounds are supposed to look very skinny. That is the way they are built. Do not make him fat. He will be unhealthy.
  2. lots of spaghetti and garlic bread
  3. feed it ever morning and luch and dinner ever time when you eat
  4. It is the nature of this breed to be very thin and it is normal. Becasue they are not big eaters you have to be sure you are providing a very high quality diet for them so they are getting the most out of what they are eating. I recommed something like Merrick, Soild Gold, Innova, Wellness, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul something very high quality with no by products or fillers. This will help your dog to use the food he does consume.
  5. Fried chicken and corn bread. hehe
  6. IG's are supposed to be lean, even to the point that you see ribs. Look at the language in your breed standard. Talk to your vet. The weight and size regulations in the standard are there for a reason. Not just for looks. Think about what the dog was bread to do. If you still need to put some weight on then go to the grocery store to the frozen food section and buy some frozen Bil-jac. This will pack the weight on. But like I said, do not do it without checking the breed standard and with your vet first. If you cannot find the breed standard, e-mail me and I will help you find it.
  7. HAVEHIM EAT SOME YOGURT. IT HELPS THE FOOD STICK TO THEM AND HE WILL GAIN SOME WEIGHT.
  8. Does your vet think he is underweight? IG's are supposed to look very thin, average height 13-15 inches and weight 7-15 pounds. *IF* your vet thinks he is a little thin, you can try feeding him 1 more meal each day, or switch to a puppy food for a while. Personally I like Nutro and Nutro Natural Choice products for putting weight on thin dogs and cats.
  9. he's an Italian Greyhound - he's supposed to look lean. If you really need him to gain weight, give him a bit of hamburger or mutton boiled with rice (and add a little garlic, dogs love it). Don't give him too much but you can add some to his food - he'll love it.
  10. NO!!! They're SUPPOSED to be SLIM!!! Are you trying to KILL it???
