We have applied to keep an Italian Greyhound in our Strata apartment, our neighbours are being unreasonable?

Any way of getting around the term in our by-law stating the "owners corporation cannot unreasonably withold approval"?

  1. A greyhound should NEVER be kept in an apartment. They are far too big and it is very unfair to the dog as they need lots of room to run around. You should try to get a smaller dog.
  2. Oh, Brendan. I hope the corporation does NOT withhold approval. Once they give approval be a VERY Good dog neighbor. Very GOOD.
  3. who determines what ois "reasonable"? the owner's determination will almost always prevail when reasonable is ill-defined by simplicity of language. neighbors, however, may have some influence on what the determination winds up being. but they cannot over-rule the owner, if the owner says it's okay. just be sure it's put in writing and signed by the owner.
  4. Grey Hounds want to run! It is an act of cruelty to keep them in an apartment. If you are going to keep him in an apartment you must take him out to open fields to run or you are cruel.
  5. Jessica L has a lot more studing to do doesn't she? Moron. There should be weight limits. Italian Greyhounds fall well under "reasonable" sizes for apartment living. I would keep asking. Keep applying and don't take no for an answer. Make them lay it out for you. Make them commit to weight limits. Use a lawyer friends letter head (or make your own on your computer) to write a letter asking for details and limits. Works like a charm.
  6. eric, jessica L...you know nothing about greyhounds let alone IGs. it should be what ever the owner decides, your neighbors should have little influence.
  7. Maybe, like a few people who have answered here, your neighbiurs have no idea what an Italian Greyhound is. I would ask to speak with them and do some education on the breed. IG are greyt dogs and your neighbour just may not know. to some of the others here, Italian Greyhounds are between 13 and 15 inches tall. Small, apartment sized dogs. Greyhounds on the other hand are large dogs - but retired racing greyhounds do not need a ton of exercise and make greyt apartment dogs with the right family. Two 30 minutes walks a day and 1 or 2 other potty outings and a greyhound is good to go. A good run every couple of weeks in a full fenced area and they are happier than ever.
  8. Well considering an ITALIAN GREYHOUND is about a twentieth of the size of a normal greyhound (ie about 3kg) If Jessica L was studying to be a vet than she should know that!! They are short haired clean dogs which are easy to train. They also prefer to be indoors. Good luck.
