How long does it take a Greyhound bus to get to New York from West Virginia?

  1. I tried checking on the Greyhound website, but, as you probably already discovered, you can't seem to reach any kind of time schedule. You just show up, buy your ticket, and hope there's space on the bus. Not so good service, in my opinion. Anyway, I checked Yahoo Maps to see that it's about 490 miles from Parkersburg, West Virginia to New York, NY. That's 8 hours driving in a car, which I'm guessing will mean at least 20 hours or more by bus. My daughter rode Greyhound one time about half that distance, and it took about 10 hours before she reached her destination. The problem is that the bus has to stop at every little town along the way in order to pick up and drop off passengers. Plus, the driver has to have his or her coffee and lunch breaks. So, while it's the cheapest way to travel, it's certainly not going to be the most time efficient. Happy trails!
  2. Your best bet would be to just call Greyhound and wait to get to someone on the phone. Also - try and find out if there are express routes or times so that you don't get stuck making so many stops. Take a few snacks for the trip. And if you do get off the bus to stretch your legs - keep the bus in your site! When the driver has to go - he goes - and he won't wait for you to get back on!
