Can you book Greyhound bus tickets from outside the US?
I am from England and am visiting the US in the summer, I am trying to book a Greyhound bus journey, and pay for it, but it asks for a telephone number, and I don't have a US one so it doesn't let me proceed. Does anyone know what can be done to get around this, or do you have to have a contactable number to book? Also is booking really necessary, as it says on the website that you do not need a reservation and can travel by turning up on the day? Any help appreciated, thanks.

- be wary of just showing up, only because those ticket offices can be unreliable! i cant say for sure but ive booked dozens of greyhound tickets and never received a call on the number I used.
- I think you can book them online.. no?
- Greyhound boards on a 'first come first serve' basis. Booking is not important, you just be there a couple hours before departure, buy the ticket and get in line at the correct departure gate. The sooner you get in line, the better is your chances of getting a window seat. Getting in line means you put your luggage in the line that feeds into that gate and then you can sit in a bench or chair and wait comfortably, keeping an eye on your stuff of course. About 30 minutes before departure you go over to your luggage and physically be in line waiting. There's a few exceptions like in New York City which is so busy, you'll want to be standing there in line the whole time. A few suggestions. Greyhound will set your luggage in water and other fun kinds of mess and soft pack luggage will get dirty so you might want to go, waterproof or hard case. It's not such a big deal but it will get dirty. Not all Greyhound depots are open 24/7 and you may find yourself in a situation where you're waiting for a bus and the depot closes for a few hours. In that case (if the weather sucks) take the local bus to the airport and wait there. Sometimes a Greyhound bus will have a 30 minute break at a truck stop and if you're prepared you can make a mad dash and buy a shower. Truck stops have showers for truckers but anybody can buy one. Just go to the counter with shower stuff and clothes change and pay for one. You'll have to have all this ready and carry-on, the bus driver won't let you into the cargo bay. If you're laid over for a couple hours you can go to the YMCA to buy a shower. You'll see much more of the U.S. on Greyhound than probably any other way. All kinds of different people, rich people, poor people, crazy people, fun people, hot chicks, not so hot chicks, people who ate dog for dinner and are an interesting olfactory experience ha. You'll love it all, kudos and have fun.
