USA Bus Lines

I need to ask experienced people a few questions about Greyhound Bus Lines, HELP!?

I am traveling with Greyhound for the very first time from NM to NY. I wanted to know a few answers to my questions from real people who will give me honest answers. The one with the most helpful information will get 10 points. Thank You 1. In your experiences, have you ever seen a robbery or been robbed at the bus terminals? Any security? 2. Where do we go to get things to eat? 3. Are there little fast food joints in the bus stations? 4. On a scale of 1-10, what would you rate Greyhound? 10 being the best. 5. Was the ride comfortable (seats, noise control, ect.)? 6. Have you ever had luggage lost during a trip? 7. Can a guitar be considered carry-on? 8. When stops are made between bus stations, do drivers inform you when the bus will be rolling again? 9. What are some good and helpful tips you guys can give me to make my trip successful and safe? Thank you all for taking time to read this and help me with my problems. I humbly appreciate it. :)

  1. Greeting's! FYI Greyhound is a company in deep trouble and in poor condition! I hate to be the one to bust your bubble, but trust me, as a former Greyhound driver I have to say the service is terrible! I would strongly suggest NOT taking Greyhound from NM to New York. The terminals are sparse, crowded and the staff rude and totally uncaring. The buses are very full this time of year due summer crowds & major cutbacks in service recently as the company is downsizing. The routing is indirect with long delays at transfer points possible. The stations are placed far from any food outside of the overpriced and very limited "Travelers Grill" operated by Greyhound. Please consider taking Amtrak as the fares are similar and the comforts much better in all regards. Amtrak serves NM eastbound out of both the northern part of the state (ABQ) and the south Deming, & El Paso (Near Las Cruces) The train would only require one change at Chicago. Even the airlines can have competetive prices if checked online. What ever your choice, beware of using Greyhound! Incidently there is a new bus system currently expanding called Megabus (Coach USA) Soon they will offer nationwide service and already service major cities in the mid west. Once they expand to the rest of the country it will again be advisable to travel by bus. Good Luck! PS. I'm serious...you will be unhappy if you use Greyhound!
  2. Greyhound used to be wonderful-- in the 50's. the drivers were sharp dressers/mannerly/helpful. The fare was great and the ride comfortable. That is all gone now. There's pot being smoked in the back. There are disgusting creeps who will try hustle or even feel up a young woman. The terminals are the home of homeless. Forget using their toilets, they are crawling. Outside the terminals are beggers and pimps. they have cut down on stops so you can't stretch your legs or get a decent meal. the drivers are surly. Greyhound is the last national bus system and it is on its last legs. Ride the Amtrak or go with a friend in the auto. No, the driver will not find you at the cafe. You must know the number of the bus and keep your eye on the driver or he will leave without you.
