Is an Italian Greyhound a good "hypoallergenic" dog?
I have been wanting a dog really badly but am allergic. From my research of hypoallergenic dogs my favorite is the Italian Greyhound since they are pretty much lapdogs that need a little extra excise and seem really cool! What are YOUR thoughts?

- No, They are orderless and shed less than most dogs, but they are not considered hypoallergenic. Breeds that are include: Poodle, Yorkie, Bichon Frise, and other small dogs.
- dont think they are any it depends on person and their reaction to dog
- I have heard that they rarely shed. However, they have VERY THING skin, and you will have to take extra precautions with them in the elements. If you live somewhere that gets hot or cold, they will need special care. There is no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog.
- What research did YOU do? Italian Greyhound is NOT considered "hypoallergenic". These are the dogs on the "hypoallergenic" list, as least the official AKC list: http://www.akc.org/about/faq_allergies.cfm Plus, "hypoallergenic" does not mean a particular dog won't affect a particular person. Just means the animal produces less dander and doesn't drool. Still has both dander and saliva, though. You (or your mother) could be allergic to ANY dog. Period. Italian Greyhounds are also NOT "pretty much lapdogs that need a little extra exercise" - 30-40 minutes a day MINIMUM. And they can be hyperactive. Don't count on "lap dog", either. Mom and dad don't want a dog, it's time to learn to RESPECT their decision and drop the subject. Seriously.
- The latest research has exploded the myth of hypoallergenic breeds. Some individuals can be identified as Ok by a saliva test.
