How do I get a Italian Greyhound and a husky to get along?
They get along it's just the husky doesnt relize how rough he is playing with the greyhound and they are both 2 months

- Watch the dog whisperer
- They are just being puppies. If one is being too rough the other one will let it be known.
- call Ceaser
- Get them high
- keep them sperated by a fence but a fence that they can see amd smell each other. It's like letting them get to know each other first.
- They're only 2 months old, their puppies.. so they're going to play rough, and bite each other. It's a bad energy mix a husky and greyhound. Greyhounds are generally laid back dogs where Huskies are go go go. So that was a fault on your part, my suggestion is take the husky out for a nice walk, which you should increase the time length of the walk as he gets older, and that way the husky can match the greyhounds play energy level.
- What is Greyhound?? sorry but i don't know it... XD
- How ON EARTH did you get an 8 week old IG? NO responsible breeder would allow this. Huskies have super high prey drives. I would NEVER allow these dogs to be alone together. Yes, even though they are being raised from puppyhood. Didn't you do ANY research before getting these dogs??? Even a minute of research? And IG's are so breakable, that it's highly likely that your husky will hurt him accidentally. Really, this was a very bad idea.
- when they start getting rough bang your hands together once don't speak and walk out of the room the idea is so the dogs to follow and stop the roughness. it is not aggresion at the age and is part of their developement. to them is is only play your greyhound will let the husky know when he has had enough usually with a bark or slight nip of the ear. try increasing exercise as they are both very energetic dogs and are meant to run. they will need at least a 2 hour hard work out (running) a day minium. make sure they have plenty of mental and physical stimulation as they are both intellegent breed and will become destructive if bored.
- ......I think it's the nature of the situation....I do not beleive you can w/o confusing the husky...hope the Husky has a sense of things...the greyhound should let him know with a yelp....they are both very young....let nature take it's course ,this might have been a consideration before..but it's too late now unless it's worse than I imagine...then maybe you should separate....
- BYBs Kill Dogs Dead.... I wish I could give you 50 thumbs up!! This question immediately made me gasp. I am an Italian Greyhound breeder of 25 years. I once.... ONCE I repeat.... sold an IG to a Husky owner. And only because she was an experienced dog owner who worked in a boarding kennel and also showed dogs. The IG came back to me after a year absolutely terrified of big dogs and hairy dogs. Only by the grace of God dod he not have any broken limbs. The Husky was never intentionally harming him, but he would play with the IG and hurt him just by the sheer size difference. The poor IG ended up spending most of his time in a crate because every time he went out he would get hurt. That is no life for an affectionate IG. Huskies are very physical dogs and play a lot with body checks and body slams. The IG puppy will end up getting seriously hurt. A broken leg on an IG is upwards of $2000, usually closer to 3 or $4000 when all is said and done. (My latest one was over $7000). Remember, your Italian Greyhound will weigh 10lbs at maturity, your Husky about what? 80 lbs? The only time an IG and a larger dog can work is if the larger dog is much older and sedate. This husky puppy WILL cause your IG serious harm, no matter how good your intentions. NO reputable breeder would sell an IG puppy before 10 weeks, most wait for 12 weeks. NO reputable breeder would sell to someone who also has a husky puppy of the same age. Please, join www.iggyplanet.com to so some after-the-fact research on IGs. Facts are, IGs are breakable, especially in the puppy/adolescent phases. You can't change that fact. PLEASE PLEASE reconsider your choice of dog-mates! If you need help finding IG Rescue, please email me and I will put you in touch with the closest rescue rep. or call the breeder and ask to return the IG OR the Husky.
- I generally like to be optimistic about things, but I would start saving for broken leg surgery now. Just a bad combination from the beginning, especially a husky puppy who doesnt quite understand how to be gentle on command and taught how to settle down when needed. I have 2 italian greyhounds and have dodged the broken leg bullet so far but I am always prepared for it and its always in the back of my mind. NEVER let them play unsupervised. For those of you who said the greyhound will let him know with a yelp he is being too rough, you dont know IG's. A yelp could be all the rough housing it takes to break one of those legs, they are not a big dog like most people think when someone says Greyhound. They only weigh between 8-15 pounds andhave toothpicks for legs. Its a good idea for most IG owners to already have a splint on hand just incase you need it, I have one from my vet, not that it replaces emergency surgery but good to have on hand with such a delicate breed.
