Is the greyhound station in Las Vegas and the surrounding neigborhood generally pretty safe?
I'm flying into Las Vegas to try to get the grand canyon this spring. I have to take public transportation to get from LV Airport to the greyhound station on a tuesday night between 6-8 PM for a bus ride to Flagstaff, AZ. I'm just wondering If there's anything I should be aware of between these two places or at the station. I'm a 16 year old guy and I'm traveling by myself. Thanks.

- That is not the best section of town. At that time of evening it should be OK. Be careful. Good Luck.
- Hi. The bus station is located on Main Street, it is definatly scary at night. The amount of homeless down in this part of town is quite high and the crime rate is pretty consistant. I am sure that you will be fine, just stay on the main streets and don't walk through parking lots, or, of course dark alleys. Just because it isn't the safest place, there are still a lot of people and a lot of police. I am sure you will be fine. Don't waste your film on Vegas, definatly save it for the Grand Canyon, it is beautiful!
- I would take a cab, just because time wise at that time of day you would be cutting it close with public transportation.
- It is in the Union Plaza hotel. I would say you should be fine but be alert and keep your wits. This area is full of street people and "down and outers!"
- Hi Brad: what I would do is take the #108 Paradise CAT bus from McCarran airport to downtown. You catch the CAT bus at "Ground Level transportation 0" - You will see that sign on your right as you approach the baggage claim area. When the bus gets to downtown(Fremont Street) you could exit the bus and walk the four blocks(West) down to Main Street then turn Left(South) 2 blocks to get to the Greyhound Station which is one block past the Plaza hotel. Fremont Street and Main Street are very safe areas to walk, you would have no problem The #108 makes a constant loop between the DTC(Downtown Transportaion Center) and McCarran airport. On it's way back to McCarran from the DTC the #108 stops at the Plaza hotel. Which is only one block North of the Greyhound bus station. You might ask the driver how long the layover is at the DTC and if it's only going to be a few minutes, just stay on the bus during the stop. That way you would only have to walk one block to the Greyhound station. CAT bus info http://www.rtcsnv.com If you are hungry and decide to walk down Fremont Street, there is a McDonalds in Fitzgeralds. They won't give you a hard time, you can access the restaurant without going through the casino. There is also a McDonalds in the Plaza hotel. If you have any Q, I will be glad to try and help. ~Jack~
