USA Bus Lines

What are the pros and cons of traveling across the country in a Greyhound bus?

I am planning a trip from Michigan to Arizona (it will be a roundtrip), and I was wondering what the advantages and disadvantages are to traveling by Greyhound bus instead of flying? I will by traveling alone and am a 22 year old female, so my primary concern would be safety. Has anyone ever travelled by Greyhound on a long trip? What did you like and what didn't you like? Would you do it again?

  1. don't do it. take Amtrak if you don't want to fly
  2. Generally speaking it is not worth the savings to make long trips by bus. If time is not a concern you can usually find cheap tickets to your destination (or to an alternative city, then bus it to your final destination). Buses are good for trips where you are getting on and off on a regular basis with no specific plan as to where you are going and want flexibility.
  3. That is along trip and will probably have several transfers. At transfers, the next bus is often late or does not come and you get stuck in a filth bus station and they do not bother to tell you anything! Seats are tiny , buses are old, at transfers , they often "lose" luggage. If you can take the Rideshare and post a note there too...look for a ride with another female. You may be able to go at least one way that way. worked great for me. Amtrak... 1-800-872-7245. Easier to call them...there website is hard to use.
  4. thank you for your importance
