How many races does the average racing greyhound run in its career?

I'd like to know approximately how many races a good racing greyhound would be likely to run in its career - which may last say 3 or so years? My ex-racer has tattoos and I've found out that she raced mainly at Swindon, a total of 68 times. She had 7 1sts and then quite a lot of 2nds and 3rds, plus a few lower!!

  1. It does vary according to the dog, very rarely will any dog go over 100 races in their career, around 50 to 70 is about an average for most. You can go onto greyhound data if you know the dogs race name and check there.
  2. For a dog, if it stays fit, over a hundred. For a bitch, maybe 70, as it spends a lot of time in season. About 15 years ago, in my neck of the woods, (West Country), there was a dog called "Fish and Chips", which used to run at a flapping track (not registered by the National Greyhound Society), at a place called Brean near Weston Super Mare, This dog actually WON a hundred races, which is quite amazing. The local paper reported the story. The headline was "A TON OF CHIPS".
