Is a bus tour on chicago a fun thing to do for someone in their 40's? Airport hotel?
I am a pretty low key person. A bunch of people are going to chicago for a wedding and then into the city the next day. They are going on a bus tour in the daytime. They're planning to stay at an airport hotel. I'm concerned the bus tour will be rowdy and hectic, and the airport hotel might be in a bad area or too noisy. What do you think?

- I think you are a party pooper. Stay home, paint some walls and watch it dry.
- They're filming Transformers 3 right now. I don't know if it's bringing more tourists around, but it's increasing traffic with all the detours. I've never been on one, but I've drove past a few double deckers and the tourists usually look pretty tame. I think you'll be ok, especially since it's in the daytime.
- everyone I know that has gone on them has had a great time! I have been on many of them myself and always have fun!
- I think you'll enjoy the bus tour, actually. I've only taken two such "bus tours" in my life (I'm 43 years old), and both of them were pretty docile. While I'd never admit to liking a "bus tour", what appealed to me about it was that I didn't have to pay attention to driving, so I could gawk at whatever the guide was pointing out. I frequently stay at the Hilton Chicago O'Hare, which is the closest hotel to the airport, and I've never had a problem with the noise. Most airport hotels are intentionally built near the airport, and so they take that into consideration and usually build in things that will reduce the noise levels. (The only airport hotel that didn't do this well was the Ramada in Memphis. It's right under the departure from the main runway used by FedEx, so all night long you hear planes roaring above the hotel taking off...but I digress...) I think if most of the people are flying in from out-of-town, an airport hotel is actually a good idea. Hope you enjoy your trip!
- A bus tour is a good way to see Chicago, if the tour is "rowdy and hectic" all depends on the tour operator and the other people on the bus. I've been on the Chicago bus tour twice, I live near Chicago, and I felt that for someone who wants to get an overview of the city's sites, it was great. I haven't stayed at any of the airport hotels in Chicago, never needed to, but as a general rule, hotels near the airport are usually more expensive than anywhere else. You could probably find a better hotel away from the airport for the same money, or even cheaper, than the one at the airport.
- I'd do a river cruise of Chicago instead, tbh. http://caf.architecture.org/Page.aspx?pid=574
- i have done the bus tour with my parents & grandparents. all ages will enjoy it! the airport hotel should also be fine. there may be more people but when i travel out of ohare we stay at a hotel with an airport shuttle & it's not to crazy. have a good trip!
- I've seen people on the double decker "Grey LIne" tours and everyone seems seated and intent on listening to the tour guide, so I wouldn't worry about it. As a suggestion there are also Architectural Tours, and river tours that I'd recommend trying if you have the time.
