is it okay for my manager to change my time schedule?
My manager changed my schedule without my knowledge or permission and the time she is putting me on is not correspondent to the CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) time schedule, Therefore in order for me to make it to work on time I would have to walk some distance very early in the morning in a very dangerous neighborhood. I have provided her with my bus schedule but she is still being very unreasonable so I was wondering is it okay for her to do this to me? she told me that she changed me back to my original time that i had when i started working at the job i have physical proof that my schedule when i started the job is not what she is giving me now.

- it sounds like she doesn't care or respects you take it up to her supervisor if not RIOT!
- I think that is rude. You need to check with your human resources person
- She should not be altering your schedule if it was agreed on previously. In some cases an employer can change an employees schedule in order to meet business need (particularly in the retail or food service/customer service industry), but if there is a contract, they cannot make any changes without agreement from you. If your boss refuses to make your schedule more in line with your transportation needs, you may have to look for other work.
- I've never heard of any job where they could not change your schedule, unless you had a signed contract forbidding them to do that. If you really wanted a truthful answer here, you'd at least tell us what kind of work you do. It is not the employers responsibility to see that his schedule fits into a bus schedule, that is your problem. Because of the way this question is worded, I don't feel any sympathy and sense that the bosses may just want to get rid of you. You might consider moving to a better part of town, as well, closer to work, even if you have to take a smaller place.
- I am sorry to seem so unsympathetic, but you must deal with the realities here. Lynn, try to keep in mind that it is the managers job to see that there is someone to cover the job, not consider your hopes, dreams or realities. If she can take that into consideration, then fine, but she may not be able to, and it is your responsibility to do the job, when you are scheduled. You have a decision to make now. Do you continue in the job in its new format? Or do you find a another job? It is really that simple. Employees often have the erroneous opinion that the job is all about their needs. It isn't. It is about the work, and getting it done. It is irritating to you, and perhaps even dangerous for you. Can you continue? Can you move or find another way to get to work? If not, then the writing is on the wall. Look for another job.
- check your contract if it says your schedule can be changed in any language without previous notice contact your union or HR rep, if it doesn't bring it up with your boss if she says boo then you need to go to your union or hr or to the person with direct authority over your boss.
- She is changing your schedule to suit the needs of the business, that's her job. I'm sorry it doesn't work with your bus schedule, but she has to think of the business first. So yes, that makes it okay.
