Are there any good modes of public transportation besides the greyhound or Amtrak?

I live in Berkeley, CA and I want to travel to Santa Barbara this weekend. I don't have a car, cannot rent one, and both Amtrak and the Greyhound are way too expensive and take too long. Are there any other ways of getting to Santa Barbara?

1. No motor vehicle, it's 35 hours by bicycle, hitchhiking is a possibility but could leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere. Yeah... you're S.O.L.. You might consider getting a motorcycle for the next time you want to take a little trip.
2. here's a suggestion check craiglist lists and see if are any rides going from Berkeley to Santa Barbara
3. Greyhound and Amtrak are going to be the cheapest. The only other thing I can think of is to post on UCB's forums or craigslist and see if anyone is going there and wants to give you a ride in return for gas money.
