- Personally I think it sucks and we shouldn't have to suffer with alternate routes to commute to/from work and a possible fare hike only because some idiots didn't think it was important to check people's credit history before giving them loans. Ugh!
- management should be foreced to take a pay cut and get rid of all the extra jobs that are given to political friends. you can cut $10000s of dollars that way
- It's funny how they don't have a proposal to cut the CEO's $500,000/year salary significantly OR eleminate his private police transportation to and from work several times a week (a recent Fox 5 investitation prooved all of this on camera). Instead, while he continues to make millions, the paying customers get canned. This is the REAL reason why the economy is suffering right now. THe top dogs are making out and the common middle-income folks are getting canned and going deeper into debt. I DID notice that the intial fare hike proposal hasn't been mentioned again. I CAN understand perhaps cutting the hours of a few MTA employees, who basically treat the customers like crap anyway at their booths. Otherwise, go after the top dogs and force them to take significant salary decreases. Furthermore, they even recently caught the CEO of the MTA getting his shoes shined at Grand Central while he was "on the clock". It's sick!!!
- I think it stinks but until the complete dysfunction of the MTA, NYC, and Albany are tackled, it's what will happen. Now or in the future but it will happen. Did you know that "Authorities" (Transportation, Bridges, Power, etc.) were formed so that they were outside the state finance system and could therefore issue debt without voter/government approval? Did you also know the state can mandate pay and benefits to city workers without any compensation? The city is left to pay the additional amounts without state assistance in many (if not all) cases. Until these issues are tackled the residents and transit riders will face tax increases, fare hikes and reduced services. We are, in short, royally screwed.
- be like me and boycott mta...dont let them hold u hostage. i bought a folding bike this year and it allows me to bring into the office and hide it under my desk since it folds. the bike basically pay for itself after 4-5 months due to me not taking the subway to work. save $$$ and better for your help. mayor bloomberg has created alot of bike lane in the city...so dont worry its safe to bike.
- I think realistically we will have to accept some cuts in this service, as in every government service, over the next couple of years while budget conditions are awful. But this is unreasonable. 30-60m headways at night?
- My friend, I call the proposed fare hike and service cuts ridiculous. The MTA should come up with better ways to cut salaries at the top, instead of raising fares and cutting subway and bus service. The folks at the MTA don't care about the average joe who have to pay $2 (soon to be $2.50 to $3) a ride in order to get to work. The only thing they (the big shots at the MTA) care about is line their pockets with $$$$. The big shots at the MTA, who don't know when to keep their sticky hands out of the cookie jar, should show us New Yorker the books before considering raising fares and cutting services. Good luck
