USA Bus Lines

Why does a school bus always stop and opens its doors at a railroad?

I go to school by bus, and whenever we reach a railroad, the bus driver stops the bus and opens the door. I think it's to look for trains or something, but I don't really get it. Uh, don't make fun of my question Oh ya, I'm in California, but any answer are ok

  1. it's the state law, it is a safety issue, all buses have to open their doors to be sure to get a clear View of the tracks.to be sure no trains are coming.
  2. In New York it is a state law for certain vehicles (e.g., buses and vehicles with an operating speed of less than 10 mph) to stop at railroad crossings and listen and look for approaching trains. This is for safety reasons.
  3. Federal law. Why don't you ask the bus driver?
