How much does an Italian Greyhound cost to buy, and general costs for food etc.?

- ? I would imagine those dogs would be $1,000 +... As for food and other costs...depends on how much you are willing to spend, how healthy or sick the dog is, etc. MY opinion -- 1,000 - 1,500 in the first year is not unheard of
- I think the cost to purchase one will vary depending on the area where you live, but keep in mind these dogs are fragile, frequently will injure or even break their legs. Vet bills are high to maintain these lovely dogs.
- A well bred one will run you upwards of $1000 food coould be as low as $30 a week
- If you have to ask the price, you probably can not afford it.
- Do not buy; Adopt! Check with petfinder.com first. When you attempt to buy a purebred dog, the chances of buying from a puppymill are enormous. Even though they may show you wonderful, beautiful pictures on line. Also, never "meet" the seller somewhere. A true breeder is more than happy to have you come to their kennel, a true breeder also, will not "ship" their puppies. My IGGY is now 15 yrs old. I adopted her from a lady who was ill and could no longer care for her. Check out the breed well, before you take one into your home to make sure that this is the breed for you. They are notoriously difficult to housebreak, many times, they will still break the potty rules. They are often rather timid around young children. I have 8 dogs of various breeds and uncertain parentage and my little Belle still gets out there and runs with the big dogs (they are all much larger than her!). Belle has been very healthy so costs usually run mostly to her yearly checkups, dental exams; $240.00 Then the monthly flea control, Heartworm preventative and food is around $50. Then of course, they need sweaters because they're always cold and a martingale collar because the sighthound breeds have smaller heads than necks and they will back out of a regular dog collar. I hope this has helped you. SkyWolf
