1. Do you mean from Canada to the United States? Of course there is customs - you're crossing a border into a different country.
2. Yep. Passengers leave the bus and walk through customs where they are interviewed. During this time, other agents are checking the luggage.
3. Yes. At the border, everyone has take all of their belongings off the bus, collect their luggage, and go through customs and present identification, during which time the bus is also inspected. Honestly, I've been asked what's in my luggage, but I've never had my bags searched, and I've never seen anybody get searched. The officials do tend to be stricter about documentation, though. Overall, the process is pretty casual, but yes, it's there. That's my honest answer.
