USA Bus Lines

How do I deal with my local bus transit company refusing to let me ride the bus because of my Tourette's?

I live in TX, & there's this 1 bus driver who gives me hell & embarrasses me every time, & yesterday was the 2nd time he refused to let me on the bus, & he made a threat to report me, & I said, "For what? I didn't even do anything." There was a mixup with the new change in schedule & bus routes, & before the 1st day, he was very rude to me. Long story. But he triggered me off to have a TS outburst, & the supervisor defended his side, & they don't care about my TS. They don't care to know how evil this man is. & I don't see how he still has his job. We have to wait 40 minutes in between routes, & the buses aren't healthy to ride anyway, with too many people peeing & pooping all the time, & the air vents smell like pee. Lots of dirty people. I have a disability, & I have no choice but to depend on the bus. I'm trying to find a job, but no luck.

  1. Maybe you need to show him some evidence of your disability. Perhaps a note from your doctor?
  2. I agree with the first poster. Get a note or document to prove your disability. Did you do anything to disrupt the bus driver or anyone in the bus? If not, then there was no reason to kick you out. The bus driver needs to be fired, not only for refusing to serve you, but also for giving you hell and embarrassing you when you've done nothing wrong. You need to report this to the transportation service. If no one listens, join a support group. Find the right people to have in your life that can help you. Also report this incident to the press or media, so it'll get everyone to listen. You also need disability advocates to defend you. I hate taking the bus too because of the bad environment that can make me sick since I have a weak immune system. I've met pretty of rude and unpleasant bus drivers that aren't right for the job. Some have yelled at me for not understanding or doing for something wrong.
  3. Contact the bus company directly and notify them that they are breaking the law. You can also contact the Federal Transit Administration as explained below. what they are doing is STRICTLY ILLEGAL! Point them to the Americans with Disabilities Act. From the official government website: The transportation provisions of title II cover public transportation services, such as city buses and public rail transit (e.g. subways, commuter rails, Amtrak). Public transportation authorities may not discriminate against people with disabilities in the provision of their services. They must comply with requirements for accessibility in newly purchased vehicles, make good faith efforts to purchase or lease accessible used buses, remanufacture buses in an accessible manner, and, unless it would result in an undue burden, provide paratransit where they operate fixed-route bus or rail systems. Paratransit is a service where individuals who are unable to use the regular transit system independently (because of a physical or mental impairment) are picked up and dropped off at their destinations. Questions and complaints about public transportation should be directed to: Office of Civil Rights Federal Transit Administration U.S. Department of Transportation 400 Seventh Street, S.W.
