USA Bus Lines

Do you have any advice for my short Greyhound trip from Atlanta, GA to Macon, GA?

I do not have my driver's license right now. A friend of mine lives in Macon, GA. I'm going going to see her on Sunday the 8th. My ticket is for a departure that leaves at about 10:30am and gets there at about 12pm. We're going to go some places and hang out, and I'll be back early to get my 5:55pm return bus back to Atlanta. The station I'm going from would be Garnett in the middle of downtown Atlanta. I am of course, not bringing any baggage. I know to arrive an hour ahead of time, before the bus leaves. I've never ridden a Greyhound before. Do all people go through a security checkpoint of sorts after the past incidents? I know Garnett and that whole area is a really "ghetto" type area and not the greatest neighborhood to catch a bus in, even in daylight. Even in the Macon area where my friend is picking me up - it's not the greatest area. Any other tips you can give me? I'm a little concerned that they allow people to keep buying tickets for the same bus schedule/time, even if it's way past full and can't have anymore people. Then they apparently use other backup buses to try to accomodate the people they lied to. Has anyone had this happen before? Are Sundays slow? I MUST get back to Atlanta...no if's, and's or buts about it. Mainly my concern is the round trip. I purchased and printed my tickets online, at home. They are "non-refundable" web-only rates.

  1. You should have NO problems. Just get to the Bus Stations alittle early (like 15 minutes) going & coming BACK- so that you'll be in line to have a Seat. Enjoy the trip- & have a nice visit with your friend. :)
  2. You will do this during the day I presume. The Atlanta station is rough so only go during the day. Just keep your eyes in front of you, ignore, and mind your own business. Do that and you will be fine.
  3. Take the Bus.
  4. Get there as far in advance as Greyhound says...they usually sell tickets that much to fill the bus. Carry a very small backpack to maybe bring some snacks and a book. If you're a student, take some homework to read and fill in wasted time...not too much of a reason to sight-see between Atlanta & Macon. Tips for travel...forget being flashy. That means not wearing expensive clothes...nice, but not from Saks. Don't have expensive video games or expensive phones. Don't make yourself a target. As long as you have someone dropping your off and picking you up, you'll do find...if not, then take a taxi.
