USA Bus Lines

How early should I arrive if I m taking a greyhound bus during thanksgiving holiday?

I am planning to travel from Arizona to California by taking greyhound bus during thanksgiving (9/25/2009) at midnight. I found out that greyhound doesn't guarantee a seat for me even if I already bought the ticket (basically, 1st come 1st serve). So, how early should I arrive at Greyhound station to make sure that I can get a seat on my scheduled bus?

  1. 45 minutes
  2. Really early. You're right, they do not garauntee a seat-- first come, first serve does not go by ticket, but by being on line to get on the bus. If the bus fills up, you have to wait for the next one, which can be hours. In the week of a holiday like Thanksgiving, I seriously arrive 2 or 3 hours early and sit there with a book and a snack on line, to be sure I didn't miss it. There might even be some people waiting there that didn't make it on the previous bus. Better safe than sorry.
  3. At least an hour early......get you breakfast etc so you can at least eat while you wait....make sure you are dress warm.
  4. Well, if you were flying, you'd be expected to be there 2 to 3 hours early. So, I'd be at the bus station that early too. You know more and more people are traveling by bus these days, and Thanksgiving is the most traveled holiday, even more so than Christmas. Play it safe. Take along a good book.
