Brother has an Italian Greyhound, would she be able to play with my dogs?

I know the Italian Greyhound gets hurt easy. I have a hyper Minature Poodle and a very sturdy Terrier mix. (JRT/Chihuahua....not sure what else) anyways is it a good idea to let them play together?

  1. let all the dogs sniff each other out and see if they get along first.if there is no growing or fighting let them play.the grey hound is built for running so he should be able to run and play. good luck
  2. Let them meet each other while they're all on leashes so if they decide they aren't going to be friends you have some control. The greyhound should be fine, just supervise them while they're all playing...she'll be so fast the other dogs probably won't even touch her! My fiancee's best friend owns a JRT and an italian greyhound and they LOVE each other, never had any problems! However if your brother's dog is very nervous make sure she has a place to get away from the other dogs if she needs a break.
  3. I'd want to supervise what goes on because as you say these little dogs can get injured easily. They should be okay, and the It.Greyhound will probably be able to outrun the other two, but if things get too manic, I'd be ready to step in and stop it. Better to be safe than sorry really. Add - I think the previous answerers have not spotted the Italian bit? lol!! Italian Greyhounds are miniature Greyhounds, and smaller than the Whippet - with very tiny, thin legs.
  4. Actually, don't listen to whoever told you to introduce them on leashes! That brings on leash aggression. The way to introduce them is just put them together in a yard and supervise them. If both dogs are socialized and dog friendly, they'll be fine. Problems usually start when people interfere. The average dog will be just fine playing with another dog.
  5. sure; the Italian Greyhound could outrun the other two, but Jack Russels play rough. I think he'll be okay but they are fragile dogs. Just watch them, and introduce them by having the Italian hound brought in the yard off leashes!
  6. Yes absolutely!!! Just keep the play supervised. Like the others said, the IG can easily outrun the other dogs. IGs are a lot sturdier than people think, Bone breaks usually occur in adolescent IGs, when they are still growing. Civilized dog play should not get rough enough to injure an IG.
  7. they will be fine marie they will enjoy themselves and have fun
  8. Sure, sounds fine to me.
