Do you need a passport when traveling from Canada to the United States by the Greyhound bus?

I don't have a passport but I'd apply for one if I have to, but is there an alternate way to go to the United States by bus without a passport? Thanks!

2. As of June 1, 2009, everyone from every country arriving in Canada by air, land and sea has needed a passport

4. I've never taken the bus across the border, but I'm fairly certain that everybody needs a passport these days. If you get your documents and photo together now, it'll only take 2-3 weeks to get it processed.
