Do Greyhound bus trips last considerably longer compared to driving yourself?
I'm from STL, and thinking about making a trip up to Chicago, something I frequently do. I'm getting sick of making the drive myself, so I looked up greyhound bus schedules. I noticed for one trip from here to chicago, its 15 hours long. Is this accurate?

- Yep. It takes far longer on a bus as compared to driving. Mostly due to the fact that you will have to stop at a lot of small town depots and more than likely have to change buses and wait at larger city depots. There are seldom direct routes. It is a hub to hub system like flying.
- have you considered the amtrak train it is superior to the bus sorry i don't know what STL is to give you an exact link as far as routes go but I take the train whenever I am sick of driving and the time spent depending on how far I travel is comperable to time spent driving yourself without the stress and the fares are low check it out
- I agree. Look at Amtrak. I deal with Greyhound travelers all the time in my business. Many are very questionable people. I wouldn't be comfortable cooped up in a bus with them.
- It depends on how far you're traveling. A relatively short distance, from St. Louis to Chicago, it would be a lot faster to drive because people typically drive faster in cars, and buses make frequent stops. If you're traveling across the country, a bus may be faster because there are no overnight stops. It travels overnight, while driving cross country would probably force you to stop overnight three or four nights.
- Amtrak is a bit under 6 hours, and a much better trip than Greyhound. The Greyhound trips I saw are 6-7 hours, not 15.
