Do you stop when a school bus stops when..?
there are two double lanes going north and south with a median in between? For exmple if I was heading south and the school bus were heading north and stopped to drop off children, do I have to stop eventhough I'm on the other side? I never see anyone stopping if they are on the opposite side. This is the state of Minnesota by the way.

- I would say no if there were a median but hopefully you find the exact answer.
- No, you wouldn't have to stop in this case.
- I live in New York City. I know how you feel. It's same situation in New York Metropolitan Area and since it's seperated by median, southbound traffic do not stop, however northbound traffic are suppose to require to stop because it's state law in US.
- No..............you don't have to stop by law because children and people are not allowed to cross the medium "BUT" you should slow down just in case something happens......
- If its a one lane road you should stop. But as long as its 2 lanes and/or a median in the middle you should be fine and keep going.
- It depends on where you are. Some states and provinces require it, others don't. It looks like Minnesota doesn't. Alabama and West Virginia require it on non freeway divided roads. Arkansas requires it if the median is less than 20 feet (6 m) in width, and Mississippi, New York, American Samoa, Guam, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Northwest Territories and Nunavut require stopping on all divided highways. Oncoming traffic need not stop for a stopped school bus on an undivided highway with ≥ 3 lanes in Washington, 4 lanes in California, Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Ohio and South Dakota, or 5 lanes in North Carolina and Utah.
