Anyone taken a Greyhound Canada bus recently?
I would like to travel from Montreal to Edmonton by Greyhound bus in the next weeks, but for a 57 hour bus ride, I think I would need to be able to bring my bag on the bus (toothbrush, food, pillow, spare underwear, etc...) Last December, Greyhound announced it had banned all carry-on baggage from its buses, but this is not mentioned anywhere on the company's website. The baggage policy on the site says we are allowed to bring a bag onboard. Has anyone taken a Greyhound bus in the last months? Do you know if this ban is enforced, or were you able to take a bag with you? Thanks.

- I was not allowed a carry on bag and had to pay an extra luggage fee because of that. That was in December, you are also going to western canada, the rules are different, but do what you like. If you end up paying, you end up paying. Why ask a question, then give everyone who has an answer you dont want to hear a thumbs down. You dont want the truth, you want to be told you can do it, despite other peoples experiences.
- I took the Greyhound today actually! From downtown Toronto to London. I took a backpack and purse on to the bus. I take greyhound every few months within the Cornwall/Toronto/London stops. They have never given me a hard time with carry on luggage.
- I just took a 12 hour bus ride on Greyhound yesterday. You can totally bring carry on luggage with you. The only thing is that in Ottawa they checked my bags for weapons/drugs and stuff. You can bring almost anything except the obvious stuff
- An alternative to the Greyhound is rideshare. You can find rideshare programs on Kijiji, Craigslist, and Gondola. In exchange for gas or driving you can get a lift right from your door straight to your destination.
- I would not take a bus from Montreal to Edmonton. I took the bus from Winnipeg to Regina once and that took forever. You'd be better off to fly, if you can. I'm not sure about the baggage on board, but ever since the beheading on the bus in Manitoba months ago, it would make sense if they did ban it, or at least check bags.
- They're just scared after that "decapitation" incident. It doesn't always happen y'know. But I think that is pretty unfair- a 57hr. bus ride and no carry on luggage, well that sucks.
