USA Bus Lines

Math HOMEWORK! PLEASE HELP!!?

Hello! Im really bad in math and I just came upon. So if you know to do this please show me how. (this is 7th grade pre-algebra math) thanx-you! ^^ 1) a charter bus service charges $125 transportation fee plus $8.50 per passenger. This is represented by the function c=8.5p+125, where c is the total cost based on P passengers. What is the total cost of transportation for the following numbers of passengers: 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250? 2) A 60 yard piece of sting is divided into three pieces. The first piece is twice the length of the second piece, and the third piece is three times the length of the second piece. What is the length in yards of the longest piece? 3) During which of the following races did the fastest average speed occur? Race | Distance (m) | Time (s) ------------------------------------------------ 1 | 100 | 10 2 | 240 | 20 3 | 800 | 125 4 | 5000 | 800

  1. for the 1st problem plug in the numbers 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 in for p in the equation c=8.5p+125
  2. ok so for #1, all you have to do is replace P in the function with the number, so for 50 passengers, you would have the function c=8.5(50)+125 -so you would multiply 8.5 by 50, which is 425, and add that too 125 which is 550 so that would be the answer for 50 passengers :) then for #2, u would have to put this into an equation. which i can't seem to figure out right now, srry :/ in #3 the average speed is calculated by dividing distance over time, u seem to have the distance given, but not the time, which is sorta confusing, r they in the right columns? i hope this helps in any way, good luck! :)
  3. 1)so simple, you just plug in the "following numbers" for p. Ex. when its 50 passengers c=(8.5)x(50)+125 c=425+125 c=550 2)60=2x+x+3(x) 60=3x+3x 60=6x x=10 therefore if you know the third piece is 3x 2nd piece, and 2nd piece is 10 yards, then 3rd piece =30 yards. 3)you just divide all the distances by the time. 100/10=10m/s 240/20=12m/s 800/125=6.4m/s 5000/800=6.25m/s so the fastest is the 2nd one.
  4. 1. a. 8.5 x 50 + 125 = c b. 8.5 x 100 + 125 = c c. 8.5 x 150 + 125 = c d. 8.5 x 200 + 125 = c e. 8.5 x 250 + 125 = c just compute this. "c" is the total cost of transportation for the respective number of passengers. 2. idk the real formula i just did the "mcguyver" type of answering but i can assure you it's 30 yards. 3. distance divided by time or distance over time. do this to each of the races (1 to 4). the one with the highest value is the fastest. * you can comment your answers to see if you got 1 & 3 correct
