If I have one male and one female Italian Greyhound do you think I could make money breeding them?
If so, where would I sell them? And how would I get started? Thanks everyone. I won't do it. Promise! I really was just curious. I don't have any pets I just want an Italian Greyhound and they are so expensive!

- No, most breeders lose money when they breed their dogs. There are all kinds of tests you need to put both dogs through before you even consider breeding so it's not a good idea.
- first of all, we need to know if they are spayed or neutered yet. You could sell them by the internet.
- no, you can't. you put more money into them with the breeding/whelping [even using crap supplies] than you'll ever get out of any ignorant person willing enough to buy them.
- YEAH! You could probably sell the puppies $1,000.00 each!
- No. You would make little to no profit (or lose money) from all of the shows you will have to enter (and win) and all of the genetic testing you will have to do to ensure and prove that your dogs are worthy of being bred. Even if you do all of this, you will then have to pay the expensive vet bills that go along with having a pregnant dog and eventually numerous puppies. The world does not need more puppies. Please spay and neuter your dogs and enjoy them as what they were meant to be: pets. Not breeding machines, but pets.
- No, honestly you can't. Experienced breeders who make a profit in their breeding program, have spent years and years showing their breed, learning about genetics, breed standard and health disorders possible in their breed. It isn't a get-rich-quick scheme. Say there are problems during whelping. A c-section to save the dam's life and the life of the litter can easily top $1,000. There goes your profit. add; Excellent point Viviana. If they're spayed / neutered already, then the asker gets a green light for his breeding program. LOL.
- Nope, you don't make money breeding dogs if you're doing it right. They're pets. Not ATMs. Get them spayed and neutered and enjoy your pets.
- dont do it you wont make any money youll only spend money and we have so maney dogs in shelters without homes and are starving why would you want to help that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DONT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Breeding dogs should never be about money.
- Before you make money, you have to establish yourself as a responsible breeder who has in-depth knowledge of their chosen breed. you also need to show your dogs as this is where you will do most of your learning. Your foundation bi tch will need to be free from any hereditary and genetic defects. As will your dog. You will also have to have the money to keep the dogs in the peak of fitness for the first two years of their lives until they are of breeding age. then at the most let her have 3 litters with a year between each litter. It is very hard (and extremely expensive) to get insurance that will cover whelping problems. So you do need to make sure you have the money set aside for emergency care if needed. You also need to be able to have the time off work, or school to tend to the pups if the bi tch rejects them. And you also need a quiet area where you can place the whelping box so she has peace having the puppies. And the space to keep them until they are 8 weeks old. you also need to be ok with cleaning up 8 weeks of poo. Responsible breeders also provide each new owner with a puppy pack containing info on the breed, a diet sheet and enough food to last the pup a week. They should also be willing to take the dog back at any time if the person that buys it can no longer keep it. Remember that if your dogs are not checked as clear of hereditary and genetic problems, and one or more of the buyers get a pup that does develop a problem, they are within their right to sue you for all costs involved with treatment. This all seems daunting. But it is a great hobby to have if you love dogs. you can meet a lot of nice folk and have a great time. Once you have been around experienced breeders for a while and have learned from them, it can be very rewarding. Not financially, but just for yourself. You do need to take your time and think about it. got to a few shows and meet the folk first of all. Beulah
