New York City MTA Buses?
How many miles average each day does a NYC bus travel? How many miles do must buses get on them before they are retired? How many years does the MTA usually keep each bus in service? Much thanks for your answers!

- Ask this at Straphangers Campaign's Rider's Dairies, New York City Transit Forum and register. Just remember before asking same question, introduce yourself at Mezz at Strangers Campaign and NYC Transit Forom.
- They can travel for a long time a day, it variates though. They are usually on the road for hours at a time, and the miles really depend on the route. A wild guess for me is maybe 50 on a moderate route. Not every bus is out every day though. They get many thousands of miles before they retire. Buses usually last for almost twenty years, GMC RTS buses lasted for over 20 years, finally completely retiring in 2007, while now, 1990 TMC RTS buses are being retired after an almost 19 year journey. But also, 1994 TMC RTS buses are being retired, but they have been through rough times (these were part of the old private lines; Green Lines, Triboro, etc.) and 1993 Orion V buses are being retired. It really depends how much they've been used and abused over the years.
