  1. Check with the Greyhound rescue organization.
  2. You can get one pretty cheap, there are organisations that rescue them once they retire, and they are said to be the most awesome pets/friends. To take them to anohter country is another thing, with possible long term quarentines, which would be very unfair to one. Expensive too.
  3. For racing dogs, the rule of thumb is that the price of a pup is the same as its sire's stud fee. Greyhound stud fees range from $500 to $1500. There is a catch, though. National Greyhound Association breeders are unlikely to sell you a puppy as a pet. A race-ready Greyhound costs $3,000 to $4,000, even more if it has been proven to be very fast at the training track. They would prefer to raise and train a pup to track age and sell it to you at the higher price. Contact a local adoption group. They occasionally get puppies from breeders that cannot race for whatever reason. AKC breeders will sell you a puppy, but there are only 120-130 AKC puppies bred annually. Contact the AKC to get names of breeders near you.
  4. Go with the retired racer. Greyhound puppies can be incredibly 'challenging' if you are inexperienced. They are smart but move to their own beat.
