How do Greyhound Buses work? Traveling U.S. to Canada?
I am a United States citizen from Illinois wanting to take a trip to Osoyoos Canada. I am new to Greyhound, so I have a few questions. What will I need to cross the border? I know you don't need a passport until 2009, but what do you need as of now? How does Greyhound work? Does the bus pick you up at your house, or do you have to go to the station? How much luggage can you take with you? Is there anyway to get discounted fairs? And is there anything else I should know? Due to Andys answer, allow me to add this: It is a one way ticket. I am older than 18, but will a State I.D. work implace of a passport? I'd say I'd have maybe 2 - 3 bags. I have a place to live when I get there. Any tips on how much money I should have or what should I say? I am very new to this, as I mentioned.

- You will need your birth certificate (original or notarized copy) and a government issued photo ID. (Just get a passport). Of course, I'm assuming you're over 18. If not, ask the question again, and mention your age. The bus does not pick you up, you have to go to the station. There are no hard and fast rules about luggage, though anything more than 2 bags will arouse suspicion at the border. The bus stops at customs and an agent will board the bus. He will ask for your ID, where you are going, how long you will be staying, possibly ask to see a return ticket, might ask you where you will be staying and how much money you have. If you haven't enough money, or no return ticket, or if you say you're just on a lark, then he can eject you from the bus. As for discounted fares, the only ones I have ever seen relate to military travellers. Good luck
