Taxi cab questions, please help, I've never been in a cab before.?
I have several questions, that i would like help with. Is there any way to predetermine the cost of going 60miles in a taxi? Also, does it cost more when you call to have a cab to pick you up at a certain location instead of just finding one in town? Thanks for all your help. Oh, and if anyone knows, is it possible for a 16 year old to purchase a charter bus ticket such as Greyhound, or must you be 18?

- You can always negotiate with the taxi driver for a flat-rate beforehand so you would know how much the total cost is exactly. Usually, it doesn't really matter if you arrange for them to pick you up, or you go to a certain location, because they need business. I think Greyhound bus tickets can be purchased by a 16 year old, I bought it without ID when I was 17.
- Is there any way to predetermine the cost of going 60miles in a taxi? - Yes! There is usually a mile charge (ie. 40 cents per mile) and a fee to enter the taxi (ie. $2.50) and a waitig charge (ie. 40 cents per mile) http://www.worldtaximeter.com/ Your 60 mile trip at 40 cents per mile would be $24.00 plus the $2.50 fee to get the cab fora total of @26.50. There are bound to be stop signs, traffic, red lights, etc can will let you wait for 5 minutes for $2 to bring the total to $28.50. Don't get to add tolls which range from 25 cents to $8 depending on whee you are. Also, does it cost more when you call to have a cab to pick you up at a certain location instead of just finding one in town? -No, its usually the same but if you get one outside your coverage area and they had to pay a toll to get to your location, they could pass it on to you. Oh, and if anyone knows, is it possible for a 16 year old to purchase a charter bus ticket such as Greyhound, or must you be 18? -"Unaccompanied Children: Any passenger under the age of 8 must be accompanied by a passenger at least 15 years of age or older at all times" That statements tellm me you have to be 15 to travel alone so you shoul be okay. Also, if you bougt it online, they'd have no way to tell until you showed your ID at the station. http://www.greyhound.com/travel_information/children.shtml Coupons http://www.retailmenot.com/view/greyhound.com
- Most cabs have a per mile charge, say it's $2.50 per mile, then it's a simple matter of 2.5 x 60 How ever it is easy to call the cab number and get a quote. Often for longer distances you can get what is called a flat rate. (They will take you from here to there for $$) There should not be a difference in price for calling a cab vs hailing a cab. Calling a cab in advance is better in many locations, as you will be able to get to your destination on time. (it's called a time call) Example "you can call at 10pm to order a cab to pick you up at your house at 7am, so you can make your flight at 11am) They can then schedule their cabs in advance. calling and asking for a quote is a good way to not get cheated. Some cab drivers take longer routes across town, so they get more $$ most are honest, but there are some that aren't. Call ahead, Get a Quote Hope that helps
