USA Bus Lines

How long will it take to Greyhound from S Carolina, to Iowa?

Tomorrow i'm traveling from Ft Jackson, South Carolina, to Cedar Falls, Iowa, by means of charter bus. On Mapquest, that's 17 hours by car, about 1000 miles. Any idea how long i could expect it to take on a bus, if i left friday at noon? I'm guessing i'd arrive late sunday. How often does the bus make stops for food or other things? What should i expect or come prepared with? I've already got a Nintendo DS and an MP3 player to pass some time until their charge dies. Thanks!

  1. I took a bus from Minot, ND to Milwaukee Wi and it took 36hrs. (about 1000miles) They do stop a lot, with some lengthy layovers. The thing that sucks about a bus is you have to watch your tickets and know when to get off and what bus to board next. I was afraid to fall asleep, in fear I would miss my next stop. I would personally NEVER travel this way again. I found the train to be more relaxing and when my stop came up they were kind enough to wake me to let me know. Bring lots of things to do, its a long ride, go for walks to stretch out at stop. Generally, resturants are close to bus depots or they use convience store type gas stations for stops. Pack some things to munch on and a washcloth! I traveled in the summer and just wanted to wash my face! Be careful of who you meet on the bus and don't give out to much personal info. Most people are good but you will run into a few weirdo's. Bring a small blanket and a pillow, I remember getting cold.
  2. Leave Fri Noon should ne there Sat morning
