Tips on how to bathe an Italian Greyhound dog?

I have a 4 month old Italian Greyhound and I am going to be bathing him for the first time today. I was just wondering if anyone had some tips on how to do this. I live in upstate New York and right now it is in the middle of winter so I am curious as to how I can get him dry and keep him warm as quick as possible. Thanks

  1. Keep him inside. He's very short haired, so it won't take long. Towel him off, and he should be fine. Some people use hairdryers. Only bathe him once a month.
  2. Luckily short haired dogs dry fairly quickly. Make sure to take him out to potty before bathing so hopefully he won't have to go back out for a while. Use plenty of warm water and rub him vigorously with a dry towel (or two) after the bath. If he'll let you, use a hair dryer set on a low/warm setting to dry him off. Just be sure you don't blow the dryer in his face/eyes. If you have a shop vac with a blower option, some dogs will let you blow dry them using that. It will blow the water right out of their coat.
  3. turn the heat on in your bathroom. put the towels in the dryer (medium, not high heat!!) while you are bathing him so that they will be warm to wrap the pup in. if your hair dryer has a "cool" setting, you can use that. don't use the hot setting on your dryer because you could burn him. make sure he's totally dry before you let him out of the bathroom, and completely dry before he goes outside! if your heat is on in your house and you towel him off good and don't let him out for a while, he'll be fine.
  4. I had an Italian Greyhound for 4 yrs, he just passed away a couple weeks ago. The best way to handle it is to make sure you dry him very well with a towel and IF u need to use a hair dryer, it must be about a foot away from his skin or you will burn him!!! If u have doggie shirts, I would also put one on him after he is dry just to get his temp back up, they get cold VERY easily and I also live in a cold Climate, northern Illinois. Feel free to email me if u have any questions.
  5. While dogs don't require daily scrub downs like we do, they do need regular baths--but just how regular depends on several factors, such as the dog's environment and type of coat. Check this link for some general guidelines. http://tinyurl.com/58ubwk
  6. I haven't had any problems with my italian greyhound.
