Is domestic bus travel available in Iceland during winter?
I'm going to visit Iceland in March 2009, and would like to travel by bus, specifically between Reykjavík, Akureyri, and either Langjökull or Mýrdalsjökull, depending on which one is more accessible. All of the bus schedules I've seen have been for summer. I've heard that the buses do run, though less often, in the winter, but I can't seem to find any schedules or price lists for winter bus travel. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

- I have been to Iceland twice during December and January each time. I stayed in Eyrarbakki, but travelled to all the major tourist destinations (gullfoss, thingvellir, geysir, etc.) and witnessed many buses there. However, I do not believe any of these to be run publicly, and would equate them to greyhound style buses. http://www.nat.is/travelguideeng/bus_stop_reykjavik_akureyri.htm This also might help you, scroll to the bottom for the 2008-2009 winter schedule. While you may not wish to use this company, it should give you a good general idea. Enjoy Iceland, it is AMAZING!
- Yes, buses run in winter, although less frequently. The bus companies haven't issued their schedule for March 2009 yet, but they've published their schedules until December 31st 2008.
