How to get from Cal Poly SLO to UCSC?

Please tell me with details/websites/routes how to get from san luis obispo to at least downtown santa cruz metro station. My friend plans to take amtrak to san jose caltrain station. From then on will there be a highway 17 bus to downtown santa cruz? Please tell show me a schedule this is very important/urgent. We are planning the trip for this thursday night or friday morning.

1. do you have a car or will you require public transit? If you have a car take 101 North to CA 156 W to CA 1 N. It is 134 miles and approximately 2 hours. If driving is not an option, you should try greyhound bus. It goes from SLO to Santa Crus. Takes approximately 4 hours. And depending on where you want to meet your friends, you could take amtrak Coast STarlight to either salinas or San Jose and then take a bus from there. It is approximately 5 hour train ride.
2. One way is to check the school or one of the ride-share sites. You can take an Amtrak or Greyhound bus Or the #14 Coast Starlight Amtrak Train. Another alternative would be to get off in Salinas and take Monterey/Salinas Transit to Santa Cruz.
3. From the CalTrain station, there will be a Highway 17 Express bus that will go to downtown Santa Cruz. I'm afraid I don't have a schedule available, but it is a commuter bus line, so there will be several buses in the morning and several in the afternoon, about every half hour during commute hours. If your friend's train arrives mid day, he may have to wait longer. The Highway 17 Express makes a few stops in San Jose, but the main terminal is right there, at the San Jose, Diridon station where the Amtrak stops. Out the main doors and to the left. Should be a sign or two, but the buses are painted a distinct light green and blue color.
