How difficult is it to travel from Mexico City to Guatemala City via bus?
Would it be a confusing, multiple day ordeal involving a dozen transfers and possible border hassles or is there a bus line with direct service between the two cities? Has you ever done it? What bus line(s) did you use? Any advice appreciated.

- I have done it several times between Mexico City and Tapachula and then from Tapachula to Guatemala City.See sites below for additional information....Buen Viaje http://www.larpman.com/transportpages/buspages/busouth.html http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/thread.jspa?threadID=1376341
- The previous answer seems pretty complete just let me add some details, I have actually done this trip the other way (Guatemala City to Mexico City) several times, I believe from Mexico to Guatemala should be less complicated since when you go North there are a lot of check points trying to catch people traveling illegally to the USA. In the following web site you can find out schedules, prices and approximate time of travel, I would recommend to travel on the more expensive buses since they are more comfortable and it is a long trip: http://www.ticketbus.com.mx/wtbkd/ I will also recommend you to buy a ticket from Mexico City to Tapachula for early evening (3 to 4 PM) so you travel mostly by night and don't get too bored but from Tapachula to Guatemala do it as early as possible, Guatemala is presently very insecure and there is greater risk at night. Tapachula only has one bus terminal so where you get off you can buy your ticket to Guatemala. Depending on which bus you take to Guatemala is your arriving terminal the best placed is Tica Bus, also the more expensive, from the terminal you can get a taxi to your destination but if somebody can pick you up would be much better.
- Its easy but I would suggest stopping over in a couple cities.....its a long azz ride. My preference is Mex City-San Cristobal(fun bars)...San Cristobal to Xela(they will hold your hand crossing the border, more fun bars).....Xela to Guate.
