Why am I so afraid of taking the bus?
ok, so im a 19 year old full time college student who works a part time job as well. I consider myself to be a very cautious and responsible person. But i HATE taking the bus!@# for instance, today i had to be at school but i didnt end up going because i didnt have a ride. Im mean i guess deep down i know why im scared. I dont want the bus to ditch me and wait there forever, or i have the fear of taking the wrong bus. And i constantly look over the bus schedules several times so i can be positive when i know that im going to take the right bus. But i just never end up doing it. Then it always results in me asking for a ride!@!@ I know its irresponsible of me not going to class today because i didnt take the bus. Ive already acknowledged my problem. I just need some help over coming it.

- Just like some people are afraid of flying, you have a problem with a bus. No problem, just don't ride the bus and move on with your life. No big deal.
- Commit this coming Saturday to addressing this fear. Sit down tonight and find 5 places in different parts of your city to visit. Get out your bus schedule and work out a route. Charge up your cell phone so that you can call a friend for support if you start getting a bit nervous. Schedule your last stop of the day to be someplace where you can get yourself a little reward (e.g., an ice cream cone or maybe a cute outfit for school). This will allow you to get used to riding the bus when you're NOT on a schedule. Plus, you'll get a nice little reward at the end. When you get back, take a new bus schedule and highlight the proper bus/routes - 1 for each day you have classes. Snip it out, laminate it, and put a little "cheat sheet" in your purse. Good luck in school! ~M~
- get some mace / pepperspray (if you're waiting at the busstop alone) then get ure butt on the bus. if you take the wrong one, think of it as an adventure. its more fun to spend your day on an adventure than it is to sit at home because you don't want to take the bus!
- Are you afraid of crowds of people and being singled out by them? One reason I hated taking buses was because everyone looks at the people getting on, and they watch if you drop your money or your belongings, they never help you. They are bothered by where you might sit. They stink! Waiting for a bus when you've just missed one makes people look at you like: 'you just missed your bus' but why do they have to stare and look so negative towards me? Bus drivers don't care if your body is being all jerked around. Running for a bus causes a lot of unwanted attention too. It sounds like you have a phobia or anxiety of being noticed/watched by too many people. I suffered the same thing. I was very shy. I would walk to school if it was close enough. Actually I walked a mile to and from high school. I refused to have anything to do with the buses full of high school jerks. It kept me very fit as well so I benefitted two fold, I got to ignore them and get healthier. That's really the only solution I can offer. I have a car now, and I'd sell my blood to keep up with my car insurance.
- try riding a bike to class, or get a friend to go on the bus with you as soon as you get the route straight ( visually ) then it should be OK.. i had the same problem... but for high school so i kinda had no other choice
