USA Bus Lines

Are Chinatown buses dangerous or unsafe?

Well, I am planning to visit my folks for a three day weekend my school is finally giving us. I am studying in Baltimore, MD and my folks live in New York City. I was planning to take the Amtrak train, but a round trip ticket price can be more than $120. I was going to take a Greyhound bus, but their time schedule wasn't really working for me and the price was near $80, and although it is better than $120, I am a college student and I don't want to waste too much money. Now I checked online and I found out about a bus that takes my from Baltimore to NYC for $40, however it is a "Chinatown" Bus. I bought the ticket, but now everytime I tell anyone I am taking a chinatown bus, they freak out and tell me its horrible and that it is dangerous, even though they never took the bus before. Its already too late because I bought the tickets, but I want to know if they are truely dangerous and what should I expect. Here is the link of the company I got the ticket: http://www.gotobus.com/newyork

  1. very safe
  2. I think you shouldn't worry about it. It's quite safe although the tickets are a lot cheaper than the other normal buses or trains. They work on the 'no-frills', simple and less comfortable type of transportation network, which may be delayed in departure or not punctual upon arrival. However, as to safety and dangerous driving, it depends on the skills of the driver. Even in reputable buses, there are errant drivers who may sacrifice the safety of the passengers with their crazy and dangerous driving! So sit back, relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Don't you worry. Happy touring!
